Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center-October 15-17, 2013- Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Join Us!

The Superfund Research Program (SRP) supports multidisciplinary research to address human and environmental health challenges related to Superfund and other hazardous waste sites.  The SRP annual meeting brings together researchers, trainees, and administrators supported by the program, representatives from partner agencies, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), and other interested individuals to discuss new research, technology, communication, and community engagement in critical areas related to the SRP mission.  In addition, SRP grantees and trainees will have many opportunities for networking with SRP trainee alumni, SRP staff (program, review, management), and other SRP Center Directors and Project/Core Leaders.

Satellite Sessions

On Tuesday, October 15th, the day before the main meeting, several satellite sessions will be held before the opening reception in the evening.  Research Translation and Community Engagement Core leaders and coordinators (Research Translation Core Agenda) will gather to hear speakers and participate in discussions related to Communication Strategies for Stronger Connections with Communities, NGO's and Public Agencies (registration required). On Tuesday afternoon, SRP research (R01) grantees (RO1 Grantee Agenda) will present their research on Innovative Bioavailability Assays to Assess the Effectiveness of Contaminated Sediment Remediation in a session open to all main meeting registrants.  In the late afternoon, SRP trainees, i.e., students and Post-Docs (Trainee Agenda) will get together to hear Dr. Mike Humble and Dr. Michelle Heacock of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) talk about Pre- and Post-Doctoral Fellowships and effective poster and oral presentation style, respectively.  A new feature for the trainees will be a “job seekers” poster session to be held in conjunction with the opening reception.  The session will give potential employers the opportunity to meet trainees who are within one year of finishing their program.  In addition, SRP Center Administrators (Administrators' Agenda) will gather on October 16th and 17th to discuss updates with SRP Grants Management, Program, and Contract Staff about the online complex grant application, what new Center Administrators need to know, and sharing SRP Center news and achievements.

Main Meeting

At the main meeting, October 16th and 17th, (SRP Main Meeting Agenda) participants will share research findings and implications, with sessions focusing on four main topics: Halogenated Pollutants, Emerging Contaminants and Pollutant Mixtures, Developmental and Other Human Health Effects, and Arsenic and Heavy Metals.  On the evening of October 16th, graduate students will present their research in a poster competition and interact with other SRP scientists.  A Thursday morning poster session will feature other scientific, research translation, and community engagement projects. The meeting will close with presentations by the Karen Wetterhahn Award winner, and two K.C. Donnelly Externship Award winners and the announcement of graduate poster winners.
